Did X work correctly when booted to live cd? If so you can simply boot Knoppix, mount the partition you installed Knoppix to and copy the XF86Config-4 to your hdd install. So, if you installed to /dev/hda1

mount /dev/hda1 /mnt/hda1
cp /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 /mnt/hda1/etc/X11/XF86Config-4

voila!
