new user - lots of stupid questions
Hey everybody!
i just downloaded knoppix and i had never ever used linux before...my english is not the best but i hope you're patient and answere my questions... (and i'm really embarassed to ask them...) you should know, i only use computers for working (internet, office) i have nothing to do with programming or something like this...what i want to say is: actually i don't know nearly anything about computers...but i want to learn...
so please...my printer, a lexmark z22 does not work. i controlled all the cables
the installation was successfull, but the printer does not recieve any data. there is no error-warning, nothing. it just doesn't work...what could be the problem?
and...how can i open files from a cd-rom? if i click on the cd/dvdrom button there is an error warning...
i know, my questions are stupid, but basic...thanx so much for your help!

I don't use Knoppix but I use a derivative (Kanotix) - the printer won't just work. You probably need to open a console window in root :
Type SU then return
Type /etc/init.d/cupsys start then return
Open Konqueror and type http://localhost:631
This brings up a page from which you can select a printer setup - answer the questions and it should work!
With Kanotix, saving configuration restarts the CUPS server on boot and the printer setting is remembered

Lexmark are not linux friendly, they decide if they can be bothered releasing the details required for a working linux driver. I had nil success with a z55.
There existes a proprietary driver.

A quick google goes along way!

Knoppix automounts the cds, though sometimes it takes a moment or two.
If that doesn't work just eject them and try agian.

What kind of cd are you trying to mount. It will not mount audio cds. If you want to listen to an audio you have to open a player xine, kaffeine, xmms. You can only mount and open data cds and dvds.
