a little help for a poor noob

I am new ot Linux and someone told me I should start with knoppix. I made the disc and everything was fine, until it finished check my stuff. Now my comp looks like it's in sleep mode. can anyone help?

Do you mean that all the text startup stuff went by then nothing? If so it sounds like the graphics window system X is not configuring correctly. Try booting with one of the 'cheatcode'. Press f2 at boot screen to get a list of possible cheatcodes. Try any that have to do with video...also try the 'no's' no apic, noagp etc. eg 'knoppix noapic noagp'.

Knoppix I think will try and put a PC into standby after awhile, you can disable it, probably with noapic.
