Compiling new Gaim 0.60 problem and GTK

    i was wondering where i can get a GTK+ v. 2.2 deb package

I am nervous about upgrading through source code compilation/installation, and directions for what to do to install it after doing these are ambiguous:
    ./configure
    make

    question:
    run 'make install' ?

how do i install gtk+ from source? do i compile it in its own directory and then drop in into /usr/local and add a path to it? ?????????

when i tried to compiling configuration command in GAIM v 0.60 source directory, i got this:

    # ./configure

There's the list of all possible GTK2 development packages that you could want. You could download them straight of the web, or you can type in the names of the packages in apt-get.
