Is the partition that you are trying to write to partitioned as NTFS or partitioned as FAT? If FAT see answer #6.
hi, I am running on knoppix and whenever I try to transfer something from my internal hard drive to my external harddrive it says "could not change permissions". is there a command to change writing permissions? if so please tell me. thank you for your time![]()
p.s: I am new to knoppix

it was ntfs but I changed it to FAT32 (since there was no FAT option) and I still get the same error
I now have another problem (besides the current one... whenever i click onto my external harddrive, i get the following error message:
Could not mount device.
The reported error was:
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sdb1,
missing codepage or other error
In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
dmesg | tail or so
