Mounting a SanDisk on 2.4.20

I have a 500M Sandisk thumb drive, and it doesn't automount, and I see no way to mount it otherwise. Is it even possible on 2.4.20?

I just got a $20 8gig San disk with the goal of putting Knoppix on it from a DVD. The San disk I haave is divided into two parts and I hve not yet found a way to format it. I will be trying fdisk soon I think...
