hp 5800 blank screen after splash

We can not get our knoppix 5.1 live cd to load on our hp 5800 pcs. The same cd works on other makes/models. The 5800s boots to the cd and the knoppix splash screen is displayed. We press enter and we see the loading progress. AFter that we see a blank screen. It should show the penguin in the upper left with information describing the boot process.

What can we do to troubleshoot?

Check the Wiki for Cheat Codes. Start with "Failsafe" and then eliminate the individual causal factors, if "failsafe" works, by elimination of the individual items (cheat codes) contained in the failsafe description. Also try the video cheatcodes listed. Success might depend on what graphics processor you have onboard.

Also check the Downloading FAQs for information on downloads and disc creation. If you burned the disc at a high speed, that could be your problem. SOme drives will not read a dosc that has been burned at a high speed. It has a lot to do with the way a disc is "burned". The pits may be less defined if burned at high speed. Some drives will not do well unless the pits are burned deeply. That requires more time under the laser, which is accomplished by burning at a slower speed. Here's the url for the wiki.

My guess would be that a graphics configuration is the root cause, so that may be a good place to start.
