PCMCIA xircom 56 + 10/100 ethernet modem on dell lattitude

When booting from cd pcmcia card is detected ok as xircom blah blah, setup dun and connect >connects ok but will not get any pages >error = error finding url or something like that straight away it doesn't even try, mail says cannot find mail.iinet.net.au Yes, I have added the dns address?? I have seen that some ltwin modems do not work, but this dials and connects fine?? PLEASE HELP I am new to linux and so far am loving it except why this problem

have you made sure that you've got the right DNS and it's in the right place, /etc/resolve.conf ?
nameserver xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
does your ISP have proxy if so make sure you put that in
I can't think of much, but anyway double/triple check
and I hope it works.
