Ok, there are different wine versions with different porposes.

wine: it is the free, open-source one, you can download it, binaries and
source and compile, etc. It is in development so many windows
programs don't work. I recomend you wine 20030508 (in my
computer works ok)

wineX: this is not a free one. It's special for games and DirectX.

crossover office: ok, I don't know much about it, it's special for running
M$ office.


The version that comes with knoppix is wine (normal version) and it depends on your knoppix version, for example in 3.2 wine is 20030508 and in 3.3 it is 20030623 i think.
