    Yikes!

I wesnt ahead ant apt-getted gnome-desktop-environment, and it seem to install but (while still in icewm) I tried to change to metacity, blank screen. Ctrl-Alt-F2 , halt, restart: Gnome splash screen, big X for mouse no inputs , right click...nothing.

Apt-get remove gde, remove metacity, remove --purge gde. Remove then reinstall icewm. Still get gnome splash as above.

KnoppixKnewbie trying to understand this thread.

Is this talking about installing packages to HD so that the applications I want to run are available and configured, as opposed to unpacking and installing from CD each time I want to use it. Is there an FAQ or tutorial that would walk me thru this. I did a Beginner HD Install from CD, but would like freq. used Apps like Open Office Writer. Mozilla, K3b, KsCD, to load faster.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

If you have done a hard disk install, then (having removed the cd from your drive) you should be able to start all the applications from hd. They should start faster and should not need the cd in the drive.

There are plenty of links to howtos and tutorials on this site. If you are having trouble check out the search function in the forum and see if there have been posts dealing with similar. And feel free to post back with questions - thats what we're here for.
