Up for sale is a highly uncommon piece of industrial computing history: an Analog Devices Macsym 2 Signal Simulator.
Introduced around the late 1970s / early 1980s, this briefcase-style simulator was designed as a specialized testing and educational tool for the iconic Macsym 2 measurement and control minicomputer system.
It allowed engineers and students to simulate real-world process signals (analog inputs/outputs, digital functions, and process interrupts) and test MACBASIC programs without being hooked up to massive, expensive industrial machinery.
Features & Interface Layout:
Analog In & Out: Multiple analog needle meters (D.C. Volts) with fine-tuning knobs.
Digital Out:
A row of 8 status LEDs (bits 0 to 7).
Digital In & Process Int.:
Toggle switches and push-buttons for simulating digital logic and system interrupts.
Built-in Case: Housed in its original heavy-duty aluminum/metal carrying briefcase with original Analog Devices branding.
Condition:
Cosmetic: Excellent vintage condition.
The faceplates are very clean, text is crisp, and the dials, switches, and meters look beautifully preserved. The hard case shows minimal signs of age and latches securely.
Technical: This unit is sold AS-IS / Untested due to its age and lack of the main Macsym 2 computer unit to connect it to. Internal wiring and ribbon cables appear intact (see photos).
This is a fantastic and incredibly rare display piece for any serious vintage computing collector, industrial museum, or someone looking to complete their Analog Devices Macsym system setup.
Shipping & Handling:Ships worldwide from Finland. The item will be packed with extreme care using plenty of bubble wrap and a sturdy box. Please feel free to ask any questions or request additional photos!
