For sale is a Commodore 64C with the ASSY 250469 Rev. A shortboardNTSC, assembled in Week 38 of 1988.

This C64C has been carefully inspected, cleaned and tested. The motherboard retains its original integrated circuits, with date codes consistent with the computer\'s 1988 production. For example, both the MOS 8500R3 CPU and MOS 8565 VIC-II are dated Week 30 of 1988.


Future-Proofing

To help preserve this C64C and improve its long-term reliability, I performed several carefully selected updates while keeping the computer as close to its original design as practical.

  • All electrolytic capacitors were replaced with new, high-quality components from Nichicon, Vishay, and Würth Elektronik.
  • A 1.5KE6.8A TVS diode was added to the 5V rail to provide an additional layer of protection against an abnormal overvoltage condition from an external power supply.
  • The computer was thoroughly tested after the work was completed and is functioning properly.

These updates were performed as future-proofing measures, not to correct a failed motherboard. The original integrated circuits remain installed, preserving the original character of the machine.

Testing

The computer has been thoroughly tested after servicing, including:

  • Power-on and normal boot
  • Keyboard operation
  • Video output
  • SID audio
  • Joystick ports
  • Cartridge operation
  • IEC serial/disk-drive operation
  • Loaded and played Impossible Mission from disk (see video)
  • Passed both the DesTest MAX-Switch and Dead Test FOM46 diagnostics using the full test harness

The case and keyboard have also been thoroughly cleaned. Please review all photos carefully, as they show the actual Commodore 64C being offered and are part of the description.
