This is a snapshot in time, a 286 clone motherboard that attempted to address many of the shortcomings of the 5170 and add real value. The deeply envy-inducing reset switch, the onboard serial and parallel connectors, it really was meant to allow an easy upgrade from an XT class machine.
Everything on the board is in excellent condition. If you look closely you\'ll see some bodge wires and a sneaky resistor on the underside of the board - those are factory. The only work I had to do to get this working was to replace one of the RAM chips and it was ready to rock.
The box has seen a far harder life, but is surprisingly sturdy still and the original protective bag and foam inserts are in good condition, no sign of aging or breakdown there, and will ensure your collection piece arrives to you in perfect condition.
But don\'t think it has to stay on the shelf, oh no. During testing I paired this with a period accurate MFM hard drive, with a Hard Card solution, with an XT-IDE board and CF2IDE adapter and a PicoMem card, and all four of them worked without a htich. The latter in particular really answers all of the gaps aside from a VGA card and turns it into a super fast, wirelessly connected gaming machine with MicroSD card storage and Sound card emulation - a great pairing, and one that\'ll get you gaming fast!
