Farallon MacRecorder MR-100 Sound Digitizer for Vintage Macintosh:
$69.99
Farallon MacRecorder model MR-100 — vintage 8-bit sound digitizer for classic Macintosh computers that had no microphone jack.
This is the Farallon Computing (Berkeley, California) serial-port audio input box collectors use to record voice and line audio into Mac Plus, SE, Classic, SE/30, Mac II–family, and other classic Macs with a Mini-DIN-8 modem or printer port.
WHAT IT DOESPlugs into the Mac’s serial port and digitizes analog sound so the Mac can save and play it back through its own speaker or audio out. Built for HyperCard stacks, SoundEdit sessions, alerts, and early multimedia — the period solution before Apple put a mic port on the Mac.
HARDWARE FEATURES (this unit)• Built-in microphone (grille on the end of the case)• External MIC mini-jack• LINE mini-jack (tape deck, CD, VCR, other line sources)• LEVEL thumbwheel for input gain• Integrated serial cable ending in Mini-DIN-8 (modem or printer port)• Model MR-100 · Serial number 22892 · Made in U.S.A. (see bottom label)
TYPICAL SOFTWARE (NOT INCLUDED)Historically used with Farallon’s SoundEdit (waveform editing) and HyperSound / HyperSound Toolkit (HyperCard). Sample rates commonly 5, 7, 11, and 22 kHz; compression up to 8:1. Disks and manual are not part of this sale — buyer supplies period software.
INCLUDED• Farallon MacRecorder MR-100 hardware with integrated Mini-DIN-8 cable only
NOT INCLUDED• No software disks, no manual, no RCA/adapter cables, no Mac computer, no box
CONDITION / TESTINGNever used by me — it came with a Macintosh I bought for my collection. Sold untested. Cosmetics: age-related yellowing of the plastic typical for late-1980s beige; case intact with no cracks noted in photos; cable and Mini-DIN-8 connector look physically sound with pins present. Please study all photos of the actual item.
COMPATIBILITYClassic Macs with Mini-DIN-8 modem or printer serial ports, including Macintosh Plus, SE, Classic, SE/30, and Mac II family. Not USB. Not for modern Macs without a serial adapter and suitable software.
