For sale is a NEW Tynemouth Mini PET 40/80 Internal V1.85, a modern drop-in replacement motherboard for many classic Commodore PET computers.

PLEASE NOTE: THE COMMODORE PET COMPUTER SHOWN IN THE PHOTOS IS NOT INCLUDED.

The PET shown is my personal machine and is being used only to demonstrate this Mini PET board installed and working. The photos/screenshots show the board in actual operation, including passing its built-in self-tests and running software.

A GREAT WAY TO KEEP YOUR COMMODORE PET RUNNING

The Mini PET 40/80 is an excellent solution if you have a Commodore PET with a failed or unreliable original motherboard. Rather than troubleshooting increasingly difficult-to-find vintage RAM, ROM and I/O components, this board provides a modern, low-power replacement while retaining the PET experience.

It\'s also a great choice if your original motherboard still works but you\'d rather preserve the original hardware. You can safely store your vintage motherboard and use the Mini PET for everyday operation.

Best of all, this isn\'t simply a reproduction of the original board. The Mini PET adds some very useful capabilities of its own.

40 AND 80 COLUMN SUPPORT

The Mini PET supports both 40 and 80-column operation.

This means owners of compatible 40-column PETs can experience 80-column PET operation, including on machines equipped with the classic 9-inch display. It also opens the door to running software designed for 80-column PET systems.

You can switch between configurations without needing separate PET motherboards.

BUILT-IN MINI PET FEATURES

The board includes 32K RAM and uses a modern WD65C02S CPU.

Depending on configuration, it supports multiple PET BASIC versions as well as Mini PET BASIC V4.1, which adds several useful enhancements, including:

  • DOS wedge
  • Extended machine-code monitor
  • Built-in self-test
  • NMI menu
  • File browser

The NMI menu and file browser are especially useful with an SD2PET, providing a much more convenient way to browse and access files than entering traditional PET disk commands.

The board also includes a piezo sounder for the PET startup chirp and sound in supported games.

TESTED & WORKING

Although this board is in new condition, I temporarily installed it in my personal Commodore PET specifically to test it and demonstrate its operation for this sale.

The listing photos/screenshots show the actual board operating in my PET and passing its self-tests. I am also including photos of software and Cheese & Chive running on the system to demonstrate it in actual use.

ORIGINAL PET CONNECTIONS

The Mini PET retains the major I/O connections expected from a Commodore PET:

  • IEEE-488 – for compatible Commodore disk drives and modern solutions such as SD2PET
  • User Port – parallel I/O and compatible accessories
  • Two Datasette ports – for Commodore 1530/C2N compatible Datasettes

It can use the PET\'s original power supply and also provides a 2.1mm 9V DC input for testing.

The board supports compatible 9-inch and 12-inch PET monitors and can operate at 50Hz or 60Hz.

BONUS – SNES CONTROLLER ADAPTER INCLUDED!

As an added bonus, I\'m including a SNES Controller-to-Commodore User Port adapter.

This adapter plugs into the User Port and allows an SNES controller to be used with compatible software.

It was designed for use with Attack of the PETSCII Robots and can also potentially be used with other compatible software and projects.

The adapter can be used with the User Port on several Commodore systems, including:

  • Commodore PET
  • Commodore 64
  • VIC-20
  • Commodore Plus/4

SNES controller is NOT included.

PET COMPATIBILITY

The Mini PET 40/80 Internal is designed to directly replace the motherboard in many PET models, including:

  • PET 2001
  • PET 2001N / 2001B
  • PET 2008 / 2016 / 2032
  • PET 3008 / 3016 / 3032
  • PET 4008 / 4016 / 4032 with 9-inch monitor
  • PET / CBM 4016 / 4032 / 8032 with 12-inch monitor

It can also be used in an 8096, but the original 64K RAM expansion will not be used, so the machine will function as an 8032.

It can be fitted to an 8032-SK or 8096-SK, but the keyboard cable will need to be extended.

NOT COMPATIBLE WITH
  • SuperPET
  • VIC-20 or Commodore 64 keyboards

The modern WD65C02S CPU is not pin-compatible with the PET\'s original 6502, so accessories designed to plug directly into the original CPU socket cannot be used.
