Title: Vintage Cherry G80-1800 HAU/08 Mechanical Keyboard – Made in West Germany – Rare Front-Printed Functional Icons – Smooth Vintage MX Black Switches – Built-In AT/PC Switch

Item Description:

Up for sale is a exceptionally clean, highly collectible vintage Cherry G80-1800 Mechanical Keyboard (Article Number: G80-1800 HAU/08, Serial Number: 007849). This premium, compact footprint keyboard was proudly Made in West Germany, dating its manufacture prior to the 1990 reunification era.

This specific variation is highly unique and prized by vintage computing collectors. It features a standard US QWERTY English typing layout but includes rare factory front-printed system and shortcut icons on the keycaps (including scissors, question mark, terminal commands, and folder graphics on the upper rows).

Built-In Hardware AT / PC Compatibility Toggle Switch:

On the back casing, this unit features a physical AT / PC hardware slider switch. This makes the keyboard highly versatile for retro-computing enthusiasts, allowing it to toggle native signaling communication back and forth to work seamlessly with both older 1980s IBM PC/XT systems and later IBM PC/AT hardware without needing modern protocol converter boxes.

Beneath the keycaps are the legendary, ultra-smooth vintage Cherry MX Black linear mechanical switches. Original West German-manufactured MX Blacks are famous in the mechanical keyboard community for their distinctively fluid, solid typing feel compared to scratchy modern variants. Many hobbyists buy these classic boards specifically to harvest these smooth vintage switches and durable thick keycaps for custom high-end custom keyboards.
