Up for sale is a vintage NEC PC-9801VX personal computer complete with its original Japanese keyboard, sourced directly from my personal collection. Overall, the system unit is in very nice and clean cosmetic condition with no cracks or broken parts. I have also taken photos of the inside to show just how clean and free of dust the internal components are. The included matching keyboard is intact and fully functional in terms of key feel, though it shows expected yellowing on the keycaps due to age. Inside, the machine comes equipped with installed expansion cards, including additional memory, a SCSI card, and a video card. Importantly, the internal motherboard battery was safely removed years ago as a proactive step to prevent any corrosive battery leaks or damage to the circuit board.

This computer has been stored safely in dry storage for many years and was recently powered on for the first time. It powers up and successfully initiates the boot sequence, but then freezes during the transition to BASIC. This behavior suggests it may require a capacitor replacement (recap) or that internal DIP/jumper settings need to be adjusted. Due to this issue, the unit is being sold strictly AS-IS, for parts or repair.

Please note that the monitor and video cable shown in any photos are NOT included in this sale—you will receive the NEC PC-9801VX main unit and the keyboard only. This is a great restoration candidate or source of rare vintage parts for retro computing enthusiasts.
