Vintage UNIVAC Ferrite Magnetic Core Memory Plated Wire Promotional Sample Cards:
$285.00

Up for sale are two rare vintage promotional samples of early ferrite magnetic core and plated wire memory elements from manufacturers UNIVAC and FABRI-TEK. These promo items contain real samples of ferrite core rings and the plated wire that briefly replaced them. These were likely passed out to prospective buyers and at trade shows and conferences as advertising. Detailed description of each below.

1. UNIVAC Memory Elements plastic card, 3 1/2" x 2" x 1/4" Contains sample of plated wire and 3 different sizes of ferrite cores. Sealed around the edges.

2. FABRI-TEK INC. Computer Systems card, 5 1/2" x 3 1/4". Made of laminated paper cardstock. Contains 5 core samples from 80 mil to 14 mil. Cores are directly glued to the card surface. Missing the 1967 - 18 mil core. Additional advertising on the back.

Both are estimated to date to the 1960s - 1970s and illustrate how computer memory systems were rapidly trending towards miniaturization well before IC chip technology became the norm. Very cool museum quality pieces of computing history!

Condition: Excellent. The UNIVAC card looks great, but you can sometimes see the glue around the edges when it catches the light just right. See photo #7. The FABRI-TEK card has a few creases near the edges and corners. One core is missing as described above.

The photos are a critical part of the item description. Please review them carefully. Feel free to message me with any questions. Thanks!
