make 32+ loop devices by default - I often run out!
If I understand this, once I boot to any .iso, I can't add any more.
(modprobe loop max_loop=32 needs NO loops in use IIRC)
(edit MAKEDEV
for part in `seq 0 63` do
makedev loop$part ...
won't help w/o modprobe IIRC)

For Knoppix 6 the fix is easy:
edit the boot/isolinux/isolinux.cfg file: (see remaster faq?)
to each line with APPEND ramdisk_size=...
add at the end
max_loop=64
after booting you have to
sudo su
cd /dev
for (( i=8; i<64; i++))
do
mknod loop$i b 7 $i
done
