knoppix.sh File and KDE settings
Hi everyone,
I've modified the KDE taskbar so that its in the bottom center of the screen (with no clock - Apps only). I've also changed the background image. What I want to do is save these changes into a config file (on the cd) and load them automatically when the cd boots. Is this possible with the knoppix.sh file or would the entire cd have to be recreated ?
Could the saveconfig Application be used to do this, or is it for floppies only?
Lastly, If it is possible, where on the cd should the knoppix.sh file be placed ?
Any info you can give is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Breandan.

Welcome breandan,
Are you booting from the KNOPPIX CD?
Do you set up a persistent home directory?
Yes, if all you want is to save you desktop configuration,
-- the saveconfig application makes two files:
knoppix.sh and configs.tbz
The second file may work to save your desktop settings
and restore then when you restart.
At floppy boot up you may use a cheat code at the end of
the second line in syslinux.cfg to show where this files
are. For example myconfig=/mnt/floppy
If configs.tbz has to much data I will no longer fit on a floppy
disk.
For your I idea of putting the changes on the same CD as KNOPPIX,
you would have to learn and read about remastering.
If you have a second CD, the you can keep you changes there.
Best is to make a persistent home directory on a USB memory stick,
cimpact flash, or Zip media, or on a hard drive (but know
what you are doing!), or even do a hard drive install.
I have a two CD version of KNOPPIX in which you boot from
floppy and KNOPPIX in CD one, and load and save your
home from a CDRW second drive.
