    Get Knoppix on modded XBOX

Anyone got any thoughts as to how we can get Knoppix to work on a modded XBOX?

That would get Linux to the masses!

I was thinking the same thing!
That would be awesome. Nice web server for $199 plus 2 games!
The only gotcha right now is the fact that they ban your XBOX from XBOX live if you have a modded chip.

well, they barely have gotten linux on consoles so until it gets easier and has better support, i think we should let the experts have the xboxes.

Well, Christmas has come and gone. Anything interesting out there? I saw they extended the deadline for the prize money for the this year for getting LINUX on the XBOX without a mod chip.

w/o a mod chip? isnt the chip needed to read burnt discs? unless u have a disk presser, how would u do that?

If you break the software code you can do it:

"The Xbox Public Key Challenge" to it's distributed computing client. The aim is to compute the 2048 bit private key that Microsoft uses to sign Xbox media. If it is a success, modchips wouldn't be necessary.

and if you have been reading some of the posts on /. and also think about it, a 2048 bit encryption code would take way too long to crack, even with the distro. computing. By the time we crack it, a new code could be created.

Maybe it would be better if we linux-users collected money to make our own "xboxes" and prosessors without fritz-chips and hardware components with only linux drivers (opensource ofcource).

I think if the millions of linuxusers combined their economics we could achieve a totally other position regarding hardwaresupport.

    Maybe
